The Systemic Problem

500 GW of technical hydropower potential sits largely undeveloped across the Himalayan arc, while AI-driven compute buildout in India alone is projected to add 40–50 TWh of new annual power demand by 2030. The projects that would close that gap — like the 713 km GEC-II transmission corridor in Ladakh — are individually well-financed but collectively still a small fraction of the region's firm-power reserve.

Why It Has Global Consequences

Firm, clean power at the scale AI infrastructure and industrial growth require has to come from somewhere. Untapped Himalayan hydropower is one of the largest such reserves within South Asia's own borders, with direct consequences for energy security, import dependence, and the pace of the region's clean-energy transition.
